George Jones 75th Birthday Celebration

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 22, 2006) Opry member and country legend George Jones will be celebrating his 75th birthday during a performance of the Grand Ole Opry® presented by Cracker Barrel Old Country Store® on Tues., Sept. 12, and some of country music’s favorite artists will be on hand for the party. Among the performers scheduled to participate in the celebration by singing one of their favorite Jones classics are Dierks Bentley, Jimmy ####, Joe Diffie, Sammy Kershaw, Alison Krauss + Union Station, Craig Morgan, Joe Nichols, and Tanya Tucker. Performances will be taped to air during Grand Ole Opry Live on Great American Country (GAC) on Sat., Sept. 16.

Born on September 12, 1931 in Saratoga, Texas, George is one of the most influential and awarded country artists of all time, with classic hits including "White Lightning," "Why Baby Why," "She Thinks I Still Care," "The Race Is On," "The Grand Tour," "Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes," "He Stopped Loving Her Today," and countless others.

GEORGE JONES 75TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

I watched this on the Saturday Night Opry & it was a great show! All the artists were great, but two outstanding performances in my opinion were Tanya Tucker & Alison Krauss. Miss T of course lit up the stage per usual...she looked great & sounded great doing 'The Window Up Above'. Alison & Union Station did, 'We Can Make It' & they sounded fantastic. George & Nancy sat in the front row & they seemed to thoroughly enjoy all the artists doing George's songs. George ended the show singing his trademark, 'He Stopped Loving Her Today'...he had a bit of throat trouble but did good.At the end of the show all the artists came on stage with George & they wheeled a giant birthday cake out. I noticed Tanya had her kids with her on stage, least I saw Layla & Presley...Grayson could have been there, but didn't see him.

Here's the complete lineup: ( I know the original Tues. night taping was 2 hrs long & the stars did a hit of their own as well)!
